So there I was… once again, stuck. Looking at this very piece of writing.

Or rather, looking at the blank page where it was supposed to be.

Normally when that happens, I notice pretty quickly, haul on my boots, and go for a walk.

But not today.

Today, it was freezing cold. And raining.

So I sat here, trying to figure out how to get me unstuck.

And then it hit me!

Wait a gosh darned minute!

It’s in the book! Or in this case, the audio recording of the book.

The answer was literally in front of my face the whole time.

I know… I know…

Even now, sometimes I forget.

So anyway, I took a deep breath, and allowed my eyes to close…

And inside my mind flew through the door, past the tree, out along the street towards the track.

As I traveled, more details began to form. Textures and colors flowed in. Sounds.

I could hear the roar of the ocean rolling in. The leaves rustling in the wind.

And before long all of it seemed completely real.

Naturally I stopped to pet the neighbor’s cat on the way.

He’s sitting under his tree at least once a week on these walks, usually asleep or chittering away at the birds in the tree.

This time around, he wandered up for petting, as he sometimes does, so I crouched down and gave him a head scratch. He purred gently and twisted his cat head to get exactly the right scratches, as cats do.

And then my awareness drifted up again.

I said goodbye and zoomed down the street at lightning speed.

Around the corner, across the road, and all the way up to the entrance to the hiking track.

I paused briefly to open the gate, noticing the feel of the gate under my hand, and floated through it, checking that it closed in just the right way, before I zipped up to the bench to look out over the estuary.

A few details shifted, and I allowed the sun to shine through a handful of clouds that magically appeared wafting across the sky.

Glowing with just the right shade of mystical orange.

By now, I knew exactly what to write. It was so obvious.

But I continued on along the track, stopping at various spots along the way. Making the occasional change, here and there.

A duck swam past followed by 3 ducklings. So I allowed 2 more ducklings to pop into existence for good measure.

That seems right.

A fence was slightly out of place, so I allowed it to shift back into place.

Just right.

I followed the track all the way around, down the street, and home.

And then I made my way back to my desk, and opened my eyes.

Over the course of a few minutes, I went from completely stuck…

To knowing exactly what to do.

Now it might seem far fetched, but within the process I’ve just described lies the key to effortlessly causing change within yourself.

As you might guess from the fact that I literally just did it, it’s the exact process I use whenever I want to overcome something.

And it works.

All I have to do is remember to do it!

But it wasn’t always like that.

This time around, it took me seconds to drop myself into a fairly solid hypnotic trance.

And way back when I first came across self-hypnosis, my very first intentional trance ever took me about two hours to induce.

As you might imagine, if something takes 2 hours to do, it often needs planning and time set aside.

Luckily, over the years, I’ve pieced together a process that allows me to induce fairly deep hypnosis in anything from a few seconds to a handful of minutes.

That’s why I was able to decide to go on a walk inside my mind, and do it right away rather than requiring hours of effort.
